You don’t have to own a timeshare to stay at one. That’s the case at the Wyndham Grand Desert Resort.
Located on Harmon Avenue, only a couple of blocks east of the Las Vegas Strip and a couple of blocks west of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus and the Thomas & Mack Center positioned just beyond that), this nonsmoking property offers apartment-style suites with either one or two separate bedrooms, pull-out sofas, washer/dryer sets and some kitchen amenities. So basically it’s like vacationing with all the comforts of your home.
Accommodations here are perfect for families and groups of friends because they’re so spacious. At the Wyndham Grand Desert Resort there’s no casino or nightclub (this also appeals to families). However, among its three towers, you’ll find all the requisite getaway amenities: three heated swimming pools, four hot tubs, a sauna, a fitness center and some tanning beds. There’s even a game room to keep kids busy. You can also take advantage of complimentary transportation to the Strip (in case you don’t feel like walking), and a concierge is on hand to help you with reservations or any other arrangements.
Food options at the Wyndham Grand Desert Resort are limited to the Oasis Cafe and a Starbucks coffee cart. Don’t worry, though, because you won’t go hungry with numerous restaurants — ranging from fast food to fine dining — on the Strip and at Paradise Road. (This includes several fun themed eateries like Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas, the Harley-Davidson Cafe, the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and Twin Peaks.) Plus, the Walgreens at Harmon Corner on Las Vegas Boulevard is perfect for stocking up on snacks and other groceries.
There are a couple of things you should be aware of that are unique to timeshares. First off, you won’t get daily maid service like you would at a hotel. The timeshare provides limited housekeeping services on the eighth day of stay. Those staying less than eight nights will not receive housekeeping service. However, trash removal and towels are provided upon request.
Also, don’t be surprised if you’re implored to listen to a pitch about the benefits of “vacation ownership resorts.” As we said earlier, Wyndham Grand Desert Resort is a timeshare. If you’re looking for a quiet, comfortable property suitable for all ages and not far from all the action Sin City is known for, the Wyndham Grand Desert Resort makes for a very good place to stay.
